Allergy Plan

Many of you are aware that our preschool is encountering a growing population of children with food allergies. Allergic reactions can be minor; they also can be life threatening or cause a serious illness. In keeping with our mission, School for Little Children is seeking to provide an environment that is both safe and inclusive for all its children.

With this as our priority, SLC will provide snacks for all the classes. The school also will provide snacks on the days of children’s birthdays. Regarding lunch program, parents are asked not to prepare lunches that contain peanuts or tree nuts for their children. Sometimes items might not contain nuts, yet they are still restricted because they are processed with the same equipment that produces peanut products. “M & Ms” are such an example. Therefore, if you have any doubt about the safety of a food item, please be sure to read the product labels. We have included an Allergy Awareness Food List to help you with this task. Also, as you sign up for the new lunch program session, you will be asked to help in our efforts to be peanut and tree nut restrictive.

Families are responsible for providing a gallon of 100% fruit juice or water for their child's classroom on a rotating basis. Snack Calanders will be distributed and posted outside your child's classroom.

Birthdays: Parents may provide special paper products or a small favor to celebrate the occasion. Special food items cannot be accepted (including 100% fruit juice popsicles).

Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
