About Us

2 children playing at a light tableLocated in the heart of Evanston, School for Little Children is a play-based, part-time preschool serving children ages 18 months to 5 years of age. Since its founding in 1934, SLC has developed a strong reputation for quality early education, serving almost 200 children each year. Committed to high standards, we have maintained an accreditation from the National Association for the Education of Young Children (NAEYC) since 1986.

SLC’s community is made up of devoted, enthusiastic and caring teachers, staff and parents. With parents as partners both in and out of the classroom, our strong community serves as a base for life-long friendships and family ties, lasting for years beyond the SLC experience.

Our Vision

circletime with anneWe believe every child deserves the opportunity to reach his/her potential and be successful in future experiences.

The mission of School for Little Children is to educate the whole child to reach his or her potential and support families in that endeavor. We respect parents as their children’s first teachers. We are committed to an inclusive approach, offering quality early education in an environment characterized by love and acceptance.

We strive to make our preschool accessible to all families and through donations and fundraising, we are able to offer partial scholarships based on financial need.
